Ancient Egypt

This course aims to provide an overview of the development of civilization in ancient Egypt. In view of the vast historical span covered by the course and the nature of the archaeological evidence we will not be attempting a conventional history but rather examining a variety of cultural, political and artistic themes that are integral to the growth of 'civilization': the development of writing, ritual and art, as well as technical innovations such as the spread of agriculture.
