Abolition and Emancipation in the United States

An examination of the movement to end slavery in the United States from the Revolutionary Age to the Civil War era. Special attention will be given to the centrality of African Americans' efforts to end slavery, the abolition movement's techniques, its relationship to broader American society, and the role women played in the movement.
